REDESIGNED THOMAS WOODEN RAILWAY 2021 - TrainsRawesome - 07-08-2021

Just thought I’d share for anyone who hasn’t heard, new Thomas Wood prototypes have been found and they are quite the surprise. So far Thomas, Percy, Kevin, Gordon, and Rosie have been seen but there may be more in the works. There’s a lot to take in, as the engines now have 3d domes and wheel arches, proper proportions, and different facial expressions (shocked for Percy, upset for Gordon, worried for Kevin). Gordon even has his four leading wheels and six drive wheels! Unfortunately though Thomas’s face is the same weird one revealed earlier and the wheels are pretty blocky and unappealing.

I began writing a thread about these immediately after seeing them, only to find you've done a better job.

Either way, this range was is going to be very good. I especially like how they made Percy shorter than Thomas and gave Gordon a similar chassis to Arthur and certain tender engines (albeit with a short bogie instead of a fixed axle). The eight wheel design looked wrong and made almost everyone look like a Shay, as someone put it before me. I just wish they kept the previous wheel style, because it's the only thing that ruins them in my opinion. Let's hope Mattel might surprise us and launch them anyway later this year, like the improvements to Motorized. Only time will tell.

@TrainsRawesome, Where exactly are those images from.
Also, there's just something about these that I find very unappealing. The orginal wooden railway (pre 2017) were best.

You have to wonder if they are knockoff items given no manufacturer's name at the bottom. 

To me the redesigned wheels don't appeal to me at all.  In fact they are cutting cost by using stickers to make the wheels more authentic.  Too bad they are not motorized otherwise I would test if they can handle tight curves better than the original wooden tracks.  

As for the engines' trucks (they reminded me of Brio trains).  

The only thing I like about them is that the engines come from different facial expressions aside from happy faces.

Hold on, wasn't thomas wood discontinued? Are these cancelled prototypes?

I think these are prototypes for 2021 thomas wood after the previous line was discontinued

Yeah, my guess is that these are going to be released in 2022 or late 2021 after the original Thomas Wood line is completely discontinued. I’m not sure though because Tootally Thomas said Mattel tried to incorporate the new face designs but it wasn’t very cost-effective, so perhaps these are the canceled ones?
