I found those last year and did get some, they are quite cool, but have a couple of drawbacks. First is cost, they are not cheap, second is I wouldn't say they are compatible with Lego as although you can use lego with them invariably they will block the light transmission. The way they work is 'some' pegs/blocks are illuminated and this then gets transmitted through the other clear components. They do work and are pretty cool in their own right, whether they would work for christmas displays really depends on your budget and how many you want
