Odd, Vintage, Track Piece

Take a look at this odd track piece which is from the era before motorized Plarail and during the transition from wooden to plastic. Look closely at this splitter, the curve sides are not the same as we are use to in a 'Y' switch rail. One kind of turns straight while the other turns more at an angle. Plus, there is no switch, so if a train comes from right to left (in the picture) how does one know which way it will go?

Saw this in an auction Listing. https://www.jauce.com/auction/m324392949

Wow. Never seen one like that before! Maybe it's designed for trains travelling in the other direction so it's mostly for a two into one connection.

Looking at it more I thought maybe it was part of a U-Turn but with those angles I am not sure completing a circle on the left side would line up.
