Knapford Station variations

So one of my goals is to pick up a Knapford Station from the HiT era. As I've looked at the on Ebay I noticed a slight difference in the two releases of them. Next to the bank of switches for starting and stop in the trains some of the stations have another green panel. Any idea what that is for? Is it a talking version of the station?

Thank you! Sorry for not doing a search first. Wow, that thread pretty well covers the topic. There is one available that I'm looking at without the battery compartment. Since it is an unfinished upgrade I'm not worried that I'm missing out on something now. Thanks for the info as always.
