J-04 Bridge Differences

14 Replies, 9320 Views

I picked up a small box of Plarail items at the local thrift store for $3 today. After some research I realized they were parts from the Hyper Rescue Volcano set. There is a J-04 large red girder bridge in the set. I was thrilled to find all the pieces were there for it. I noticed though that it is slightly different than the normal j-04. The two main side pieces are taller. Anyone else notice this?

Yes there has been a few revisions of the bridges. Two of J-04 that I know of.

Check the DB here: https://www.ttdb.info/index.php?search=p...query=j-04

That's interesting. The one I just got is even a little taller than either of the two in that database. I'll post pictures when I can.

Even taller than the one on the right of Finno's Data Base picture that compares the 2 bridges?

the taller bridge can expand from single track to double tracks.  Not sure about the smaller.
R-15 is another one that comes with 2 different track styles.  The original R-15 is a double crossover track.  The newer one comes with a switch to another track only iirc.

for the green bridge, you should have one base support and two supports on the roof of the bridge.  Right have them connected horizontally.  In order for the bridge to support the dual tracks, all you have to do is switch the panels from horizontal to vertical. I did some digging, I don't have the complete set of a bridge to show you how it is done.  Hopefully you will find photos online to help you.

Yes, both of these bridges work that way, just thought it odd that one is a little bit elongated vertically.

R-4 Double straight tracks work the best on the bridges.

If you want the support for double tracks, get R-22. Sometimes you can get them cheaper via a used lot.

Never seen that tall one. Looks odd. Wondered why they made taller one instead using old J-04 or new J-04
