1/200 Gold Shinkansen “Metal Pocket”

9 Replies, 4472 Views

I recently got this Tomy Metal Pocket gold-plated Nozomi from Mercari. It was given out in a sweepstakes in 1995 and was awarded to only 200 people, meaning it’s extremely rare. Even better is that this one is still new in box.

For those who may not have heard of Metal Pocket before, here’s a brief description of the range:
Metal Pocket was a range released by Tomy in the early-to-mid-90s and discontinued a few years later. Each pack consists of a non-motorized three-car train with the same wheel gauge as Plarail, meaning it can be used on Plarail track. The proportions are also really squished compared to Plarail.

Yeah they’re a pretty unknown line, I didn’t know much about them until I came across this listing.
Here are some of the other models they made

That EF200 with crane looks pretty cool. Wonder what the crane would look like being pulled behind a regular motorized engine?

You’re right about that crane, it does look very unique. I don’t know if there are any videos of that item specifically but I do know Plarail made a very similar crane much after the discontinuation of this. Here’s a link to a video of that: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CUt8EI72pM0

You can see it’s the same basis and almost the same colors
