I would assume that those tracks are with sets that aren't motorized and are just Push Alongs.

But in the video the motorised trains appear to be going along them no problem?

You are correct Dr Chris...as always... Now further research has to be done to see the underside of those little ones. Its curious as some of the tracks have the middle rail and some don't. Wonder if there is an un-boxing video tat would show how these work?

From this image taken from a video it looks like some of the engines have dual motion makers. A gear in the middle and what looks to be a rubber band around the wheels.

It doesn't seem to be a coincidence that Fisher Price's Geotrax brand fizzled out and died when they started producing Thomas & Friends TrackMaster.
Are the toothed gears there to allow the trains to climb slopes maybe?!?
