Well, for my part, I don't see the point of the ES series either - They don't look right for one thing with that odd shortened center coach, and it even makes me wonder if they'll navigate curves as well as the originals with their shorter wheelbase, but I guess that remains to be seen.
As for the EMD-styled unit, I'm definitely going to pick that up if I can, I've wanted a US style diesel for a while, and the Amtrak F-Unit from the Super Spiral set has long eluded me ^_^
Did you guys know there's going to be another variant of the EMD unit though? It's on Rakuten [I use Jauce to get Rakuten gear delivered here to Blighty
] already avaliable as a pre-order, it's the Jurassic World train, which not gonna lie, I'm seriously considering picking up also, simply because the idea of a Plarail train with a huge T-Rex on back just appeals to me lol 
For what it's worth, the dinosaur carrier wagon is unique to the set, as well as the livery on the EMD and a set of Jurassic Park brand flatbed containers, although those appear to be the usual stock Plarail flatbed containers just with alternative stickers.
