Another new Ucwepn Review, unboxing & first run. This time is Plarail Stephen. Nice job!

Do you think that Trackmaster and Plarail/Tomy are in a competition with each other? Meaning, do you think that, depending on who releases first, dissect the others model to see what ideas they can use and what they can improve on or cheapen lol?

Is that a Trackmaster flat drive in the Plarail tender?

I notice on the new Plarail release that the tender has black wheels and the Trackmaster has yellow. Which one is truer to the show? Speaking of wheels, I see you blacked out the modified tenders wheels that you hadn't done in your mod review of him. I like the engine and the tenders wheels blackened like that as it adds depth and definition to what otherwise looks flat all yellow. Good job but was that tedious trying to keep the spokes yellow or did you black it all out and use a yellow marker to re-color the spokes?

I am honored to have one of my mods (dual headlight Amtrack included in the beginning of the video as a plug for BluePlasticTracks.com, thank you. Are you planning on featuring a different mod or custom picture for the plug in future videos?

Hi Super yes if you and others don't mind I will use a different picture from here in each video stamped with the site address, The flat drive unit has been used by both companies in the past, it was very bad early on (noisy). Early uses of that drive unit include TOMY Donald and Douglas, Tomy Bill and Ben. I don't think they are in direct competition as Plarail is not sold outside of Asia in stores, but Trackmaster is almost worldwide but scarce in Asia. You have to remember early on it was only TOMY/Plarail that had the licence for Thomas and friends motorized trains, then some time after 2004 HiT toys acquired the licence and the toys had a transitional type of packaging for around a year they were marketed as TOMY Trackmaster so literally both brands in one, but under the rolling stock was still marked TOMY, they came with trackmaster track and adapter track pieces. Then the TOMY part was dropped from the name and HiT toys went about making the trains in what some fans describe as "The golden age of Trackmaster" or "Things were better when HiT had the license". Neither is necessarily true or false HiT did have some quality issues but seemed to include more detail and value in their trains. Then in around 2009-2011 Mattel/Fisher Price acquired the rights to the motorized Trackmaster line, the diecast take along/take n play line and the wooden line making a total knockout by owning of 80% of Thomas merchandise sold in stores.

The wheels and rivet detail on Stephen were done some time after the custom video. I did black the whole wheel and paint the spokes yellow again with uni paint marker, it looks weird when moving but good when sitting in the yard Big Grin

Of course I don't mind. I think its a great idea to promote the site.

Thanks for the history of Trackmaster Tomy, I didn't know that.

I didn't notice the silver rivet detail on Trackmaster Stephens tender in the video but I do like now that I can see it in this close up. [Image: clapping-happy-smiley-emoticon.gif]

New Ucwepn YouTube Review now posted: Trackmaster Percy 2014 *New design*

Nice job on your latest review and a shoutout for your assistant Thehsvdude. Hope he got plenty of outtakes. [Image: giggle.gif]

I must say I am not impressed with Percy's looks. I much prefer the Carnival Percy and the Rocky (is that right?) to the new Trackmaster. They have the black leaf springs, white plate under the boiler which adds great contrast and those pins or lights on the front, I don't know the proper name. And as much as I dislike sticker windows, theirs look a lot better than nothing at all.

Certainly couldn't be the new advertised faster motor thats for sure. Even Madge beat him. And whats with the sawing, whirring sound? You would think that a 2014 release would have that taken care of.

I laughed out loud when hearing..."Some sort of Brake Van/Piece of Plastic, Rubbish" [Image: rofl.gif]

I see that a Zombie finally got a hold of a Plakid at Maithwaite station...Oh the horror. And those are some awesome wheels on your car.

hahahaha switch hole!

I must admit after watching unboxing videos of fisherprice trackmaster trains, I cannot believe adults buy them. In Opinion they seem inferior to the Tomy Thomas releases I could be wrong though.

TOMY Tomica World EUROSTAR 1998 ***Quick run***

I was hoping that eventually you would do a video on the EuroStar. I was interested in buying this for a couple of reasons. First its a European bullet train and not Japanese which is different for the fleet and second, it looks to have clear plastic headlights and windshield which looks to be a good candidate for a lighting mod. Eventually I changed my interest because I just wasn't fond of the design. I have no doubt that those large, gray, venting grilles on the sides are exact replicas of the real train but I can't get into the looks. It does run quite smoothly though and looks to be a good candidate for black couplers.

I see that 3volt Silver Spencer turned out quite well and runs smooth and fast. He looked great. Does he have enough power for a long rake of rolling stock? I also noticed another human has lost the fight against the zombies at the Maithwaite train station. Soon the zombies will make their way to the village and...OH...the horror!

Hi Super, Thanks mate I actually filmed 2 of these videos yesterday and I will upload the other today (Animal express), I think this train is one of the best ever released its a shame mines not in better condition but it was cheap so I can't really complain. 3v and ultra dash spencer can haul serious weight when the tracks are clean, I will try and find the video where I have him hauling heavy trucks in the background I think it was HK MTR but not sure Big Grin.

Zombies! The kids have decided there was another victim now, I had thehsvdude helping me film Percy last time and he is very cheeky changing points etc to try and make "exciting accidents" NO lol!

After watching this video I can't help but think of the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks. Where he, as a grown up, was paid to play with the company's toys and tell them what was good or not. Maybe instead of a bunch of head honchos sitting around a corporate table dictating what the public wants and what is good and bad, they should watch this movie and bring in children to play with the prototypes and get their impressions before they commit releasing them. Thanks for the close up video Ucwepn so we can see exactly what all this talk is about.
