So, I got the body fitted and is put together a little video,

Sorry about the backing music, I picked one from the standard 'YouTube' library, I don't have much music on my mobile phone!
You have made me a believer and I have just ordered 5x boosters to play with Big Grin

Your DD51 Diesel is fantastic. I have always thought that there is beauty in a well crafted wiring design and this is art for sure. I love how you managed to place the booster perfectly in the roof of the cab, Did you glue the Booster Circuit board in with a non conductive glue? How about the poles that come off the board? How did you modify them as it looks as if they are facing in a different direction. Did you cut them or bend them?

Not only are your trains amazing and fun to watch they are very practical and useful in case you lose power and the lights go off. Smile Or maybe providing some romantic mood lighting with that special someone Big Grin

I liked the background music and didn't even know that there was a library of music available on YouTube. The ride around the couch was fun too. Thanks for the video and the detailed pictures you do excellent work.

Great, they really are good, a lot better than I expected! They are smaller than the 3v cells, are easier to wire into circuit (and have operating off the main switch) and it all works off the main battery!

Thank you! Yeah, unfortunately the connecting pins didn't fit overly well in the cab when they are in the normal positions, so I bent them straight with some long nosed pliers and then cut off the excess/ends as they are quite long. The booster was quite a tight fit and only really wanted to fit in the cab that one way so I glued it to the cab roof, I used epoxy resin as I know it's non conductive and used in electrical applications, I also used it to glue in the head light LEDs, the LEDs I used were 'white' 3mm items which look just about the right size! Haha I don't think my wife appreciates the romantic nature of trains so I doubt we will be sitting with them in the dark!
Yeah, to be honest I've done these last few videos on my mobile phone using the YouTube 'capture' application, it's good for cropping videos, stitching lots of short clips together and it has a small library of royalty free backing tracks that it can impose over the top of the original audio, clever stuff really!

I wanted to add these pictures too, to show how the booster sits in the cab, through the window opening you can see the red indication led on the booster to show it has power,

On this one you can see how the wires have to run across the window opening

Thanks for the detailed pictures Tramp. The booster looks like it was made to be placed right there, its a perfect fit. Are those pins soft enough and easy to bend? I didn't know it had a power lamp on it. So those LED's were just called white, nothing like cool white or warm light? I have wanted to make an attempt to use some heavy inkjet photo paper and try and print out something to stick in some cab windows to block the view of batteries or wires. Maybe even a picture of me or the Grandson reduced down to make it look like we are driving the train. On some engines where you can see the white motor through the windows I have been using black marker on so it can't be seen as well. Some very thin plastic painted back should look good....which reminds me to pick up some the next time I am at the hobby shop.

Hmm...maybe you need to add the sounds of the railroad along with your trains running to set the mood? May I suggest this one...Big Grin

Great idea putting pictures on the window, when I wanted blacked out windows in a radio controlled car I used window tint from an aftermarket window tinting kit, it worked out well really, although it would be a pain to glue it in the right place,
Yeah here's the picture with the led on the booster showing, it's a tiny red one, I think it's just to show it's working,

I like the idea of a real railroad, I doubt I could make my video last 8hours though! It's hard enough to try and fill 2minutes!

Actually I meant that to be for setting a romantic mood HeartTongue

Hey ucwepn, how did you get on with the boosters?
I have them here but have not chosen an application yet, I need to grab some more leds too.
Could this be the same voltage generator but a lot smaller? http://www.jauce.com/auction/f139658317
