I wonder if its not used as an attention getter and maybe it coincides with this new thing that Ebay has offered its sellers, Promoted Listings, where they give more advertising of a sellers Listings than those who don't if they sign up. Maybe, since this seller has always sold and still is selling lots of train stuff, has this Listing to generate traffic to his page just out of curiosity and while they are there check out his other items. Could be, just look at what it has done with us. Maybe that was the motivation for what Carrick Wilmont did years ago as OTR's has stated.

all of you bring up very good, valid and important points.
however, it is not up to us to judge.

we all are attached to these toys for various reasons.
i have not looked at the listing, however, i could not say if it is worth the price.
if i was starting out.. i might pay this.
it all depends on the individuals goal.
what i mean to say is...
there is only 1 common theme, when it comes to these toys.
CHILDHOOD either we were once a child, or we have a child or both.

therefore, these toys gain value, not necessarily monetarily.. but emotionally as well.

Nobody is judging here Trevor unless you count your judgement of us judging LOL, we are just having a discussion that has grown very interesting for sure.

Just to add to this conversation and like what muddy said there is nothing of value in this collection and all the trains here are either just normal releases or easily attainable special trains. I would not pay that price for this and just get all the trains separately. Apart from the NIB Toby at the copper mine set there is nothing really of value here.

After looking at the description and some images there are some pretty cool stuff here, the lister says he has a whole other room of 200+ trains and other items which are also nib. Just as advice someone should ask him if he has some rare trackmaster Trains cause I’m sure he’ll have them.

I guess worth would be an individual thing. I do see several hard to find or sought after trains like Lady, Bumble Bee James, Mighty Mac, Motorized Ned and Rocky, 2 sets of Tidmouth Sheds to name a few and one could say that just the enormity of the whole Lot does have 'worth'. There seems to be a lot we can't see like whats in all those drawers. He says in the description "including ALL of the 3 speed RC trains ever produced, ALL of the music playing "joystick" style remote control trains ever produced"...isn't there a R/C Stanley that is much sought after? He also states this "This collection also includes an entire storage room full of additional items that could not be photographed." How can one seriously bid on this if there is a whole storage room full of stuff they can't see? And to add to the mystery he says that there is probably 150 to 200 more trains with another 200 to 300 rolling stock giving it a total of around 400 trains and 350 cars/rolling stock most being a mystery.

There are 2 rare RC Stanley models that supposedly exist but have never been seen or officially been had by anyone...
The "cancelled" FisherPrice Target exclusive
RC Spooky Stanley, and another RC version that is said to have an attached blue (rather than standard grey) rock car or van.
NOW THAT WOULD BE DEFINITELY BE SOMETHING SPECIAL!

again, dare i say..
to judge is to be judged
now don't get me wrong. i'm not accusing anyone of anything.
however, all of us see a conundrum.

1 has to define emotional versus mental.
in another words desire versus need.
these equations have a "yin and yang" effect.
i will try to further explain

i will post a picture of 2 yes 2 trains.
both were based on want, need and desire.
these 2 trains were purchased, by me, early in my collecting.
since then..well let's just say a lot has happened.
but! in that early moment i had a choice. many choices.
i, on retrospect, -to this very day even- regret 1 of the 2 purchases.
i know that i clearly over paid for 1 of them.
an investment is only an investment... if 1 ( you in particular) can differentiate between the 2.
again.. need vs want
