TrackMaster Lion of Sodor promo rolling stock

This is probably the actual rarest trackmaster toy, only surpassed by the flip face percy (I believe some slipped out as we have lots of evidence pointing towards it)

The lion of sodor would probably have 2010 markings on it as the episode only aired in "select US theatres in october 2010" (quoted from the thomas wiki).

In 2010 there were 5773 total cinemas in the US (according to google). Saying "select US theatres" makes me think that it would be no more than 100 or so. Therefore that's probably how many are in existence.

Alright, I did some digging and here’s what I came up with:

The “Thomas and the Lion of Sodor” DVD was shown for a short time in select theaters in October 2010 and first released on October 2 (this is from the Wiki). I also found a Thomas blog from September 2010 saying that Thomas and the Lion of Sodor was coming to Marcus Theatre UltraScreens in the U.S. Currently, Marcus Theatres has 91 locations across the U.S. and (from what I’ve seen on its website) only 15 have UltraScreens. This, of course, is how many there are right now, so I’m not sure how many there were in 2010, though from news articles I know there were at least 43 locations and 11 UltraScreens. Assuming that blog post is correct, I would say there were around 50 of these made at most and placed around the theaters that contained UltraScreens to entice people to purchase tickets for it.

It’s definitely possible that the DVD was shown more widely in theaters than is stated in that blog, but I would still agree with GGF that it’s very likely that no more than 100 were produced.

@TrainsRawesome, Good work! Hopefully we will be able to find more information about this mysterious toy!
Also, this situation remids me of the whole wooden railway BART scenario on which there is no information.

I know exactly what you're referring to and it was just somebody's custom, not an officially licensed Learning Curve product.

@Fred_Pelhay, Well I know it may have been a custom, although I think it may be a bootleg.

On the place where the "learning curve" it says PEP (as seen in this higher quality image i found on webarchive).

Also, on a deleted wikipedia post it said that this is a "very limited edition toy" and it resides in Quincy california.
The box and bart looks too neat to be customs

Then again that's just what I think. You may very well be right abut it being a custom.

Yeah, I would agree that the Wooden Railway BART is almost surely a custom, albeit a very professional one. But at least with that we have some images (even if they’re not great quality) to work with, with the Lion of Sodor we have no photos whatsoever!

It's not meant to be a bootleg, either. It's simply a professionally made custom. The packaging is meant to resemble TWR packaging in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. It's taller than what the official Thomas packaging would've been.

@Fred_Pelhay, In that case, do you know the person who made this? I would like to know more about that

I think there is a Take'nPlay version that was sold commercially, and there is a similar Ttackmaster blue flatbed that has a bronze horse statue too, but I've never seen another lion car again.
Would it be possible for you to make an edit, or recreat it in real life to look more or less like what you saw?
