wanganui's first ever brick show!

6 Replies, 6351 Views

over the weekend, my city hosted its first ever lego show. i had been contacted last year by the organiser who needed a bit of help getting started... possible venues, where to hire tables and so forth. i also told her i couldnt display due to my stuff being dusty, but was willing to help where possible.

while we were setting up friday night, one of the guys who was meant to exhibit messaged and said he wasnt coming. it was a mad scramble between us locals to find enough to fill his tables, so i was cajolled into showing my toy story sets, which had 10 years of dust.  with help from mum, we got it cleaned off around midnight, just in time to get some sleep before saturday.

the whole show was hugely popular, and both days saw roughly 2000 people through the doors, just shy of 4000 total. i am honored to have been part of it and that i caved into showing my sets.

there are many MOCs [my own creations] from various builders which i dont have specs on, sorry, so my ability to answer many questions will be limited.

i made a bunch of new friends, and now plan to show at a much larger event in june which will be exciting.

Funny you should mention Lego Sun, I paid a visit to the local store last week for the first time in quite some time.  Amazing how quickly their range has changed, apart from the usual things like new Star Wars models etc... I noticed a new range that caught my eye and meant to post about it here.  It seems that Lego are getting in on the 'Hello Kitty' thing with their own take on the genre;

thanks for letting me know super. first time using google pics after imgur only let me load one photo at a time. will go the usual route and use my site to host them lol.

yes nigel, unikitty has had her own theme for a little while after being popular in the lego movie. she has a tv series on cartoon network i think. i like some parts, but not enough to buy the sets. lol.

Wow, there are some fantastic Lego Builds in there. Is the first set of photos with Buzz Lightyear and Cinderellas Castle your display? Was this a free show and were there any vendors there selling tings?

the buzz lightyear/toy story stuff is mine, also the minifigs and disney brickheadz, though not the castle. i do have one but didnt want to take it..

it cost $2 to get in, and the money went to a local charity, riding for the disabled, where special needs kids get to ride horses and ponies. there were two vendors, one a bricklink reseller and one a retail pop up shop.

Very nice that these people, and yourself, to donate their time and trouble of transporting their collections for charity.
